There are a lot of great books out there for anyone who loves racing and working with horses. For that reason, we are here to list a few of our favorites. They are popular titles for people who deal with all types of horse events.

So Far So Good: The Autobiography

In this book, Mark Todd recounts his successes. It is told from the early days of Pony Clubs in New Zealand and continues as he does show jumping. It covers his badminton success and how he won two consecutive Olympic gold medals on Charisma, his legendary horse. This book talks about his life, his family, and more.

Blyth Tait’s Cross Country Clinic

Blyth Tait is a world champion and Olympic medalist. It is a book about what happens if things go wrong. It is written in question and answer format that will tell you about potential difficulties and the things that he has found to change it. He talks about all aspects of owning a horse and the problems that may come with it including, refusing, jumping hollow, rushing, drifting and more. It is also required reading for the USEA’s Instructor Certification Program.

Horse and Hound

This is a follow up for “Captain Mark Phillips on Riding” and aims to provide the reader with a clear idea of how to train a horse for those one or three day events. It talks about temperament and all other aspect of it. With this book, you can learn an easier way to do it all including backing, lunging, and even the issues that may come during training.
