April Showers Bring…Cute Jackets

If there’s one good thing about Spring rain showers it’s the opportunity to sport a cute jacket while riding in the rain.  Wet britches, yuck.  But a cute jacket can keep your spirits bright and cheery even if the rest of you is soggy.  These are a few that would do the job in the saddle, mucking stalls, or tearing up a cross-country course.

Spiewak

This new-to-me brand has the market cornered as far as functional and cute go.  Adorable pleating details AND waterproof?  That’s too good to be true.  But it’s not! Button the collar for complete coverage against the elements. I’ve fallen for the button detail on the sleeves. So chic, no? This is what Heaven will look like for me. $128 at Penelope’s.

Barbour

Well, no one does the sporting life better than Barbour. But come to find out they also do fashionista.  Okay, not quite fashionista, but quite lovely and ever the lady.  The fit is flattering and classic. Plus you can run over it with your rig and it will emerge good as new.  Cheap? No. But if you do as your mother says it’ll last a lifetime.  Get it at Linda Clifford for $379.

Patagonia

I love Patagonia for their devotion to all things environmental and outdoors.  And if there’s one thing eventers are, it’s outdoors. And sometimes we need something longer than waist-length for walking a cross-country course in the pouring rain or watching Rolex in a downpour.  Seriously, we’re eventers, nothing deters us.  And this jacket keeps us dry while we’re at it.  The princess seams make it fashionable while the ripstop nylon H2N0 barrier means it’s not messing around. The hood is an added bonus to keep us dry and hip. I like the Seaport Blue but it also comes in Black and Retro Khaki if you’re looking for something a bit more classic. Bonus? Handwarmer pockets.  $249 at Patagonia.

Hope these help you stay dry while you’re out and about in a multitude of eventing activities!
